Roman Ruins in Antalya, Turkey

When you are in Antalya region in Turkey, you are surrounded by beautiful Roman ruins that makes you wonder, how marvellous and gigantic these ruins are in this remote area of the Roman empire.

Roman ruins in the city of Perge

I’d like to highlight three sites in Antalya region, where you can find wonderful Roman ruins, especially if you are so obsessed with the wonder of the Roman Empire!

First, let’s start with Perge.

Perge with hill drop

The city of Perge started from the Greek as early as the 5th century BC. The city then conquered by the Roman and flourished in the Roman time.

Hadrian’s fountain

Emperor Hadrian interestingly visited the city as he built a beautiful nymphaeum – an over the top fountain with pool and statues.

Agora, 2nd century.

The city centre (Agora) is believed to be from Septimus Severus era. Beautiful columns are still standing still.

Ok, enough about Perge, now let’s visit the second Roman site: Aspendos.

You just be in awe seeing this stunning building! Hopefully in the Roman times, you were watching something poetic rather than wild animals parade!

Near Aspendos, there is a gigantic aquaduct.

Now let’s move to the third site which is Side.

Side Theatre

Side in itself is a huge town with many ruins scattered in various part of the town. Don’t forget to visit the marvellous theatre.

Temple of Apollo, 2nd century

At the corner end of the town, by the sea, there is a huge Temple of Apollo.

Inside the Harbour Bath, my husband found unusual Roman tiles. They are circular.
